About Our Suppliers

For over thirty years Jane has been renowned for her jams, chutneys and home baking, now she and her husband are supporting local producers in the promotion of regional foods and traditional cooking - a taste of the county in a basket.

1. BURBUSH'S OF PENRITH. Tim Burbush is an experienced Chef, who saw a niche in the market for a supplier of quality pies and pates to hotels and shops. In 1985, he filled that niche. In1985 he filled that niche so successfully that he now supplies Prince Charles and The Dutchy of Cornwall.

2. SADDLEBACK FOODS & SMOKERIE. Set up the spring of 2000 on the family farm near Penrith Jane and Mark use meat from the farm and game from their own shoot to produce and smoke some of the best meats in the Eden valley.

3. COWMIRE HALL DAMSON GIN. The Barratt family have married London Gin to their Lyth Valley damsons, which produces a delicious drink. It is not too sweet and can be enjoyed both as an aperitif and as a liqueur.

4. CUMBERLAND FARMHOUSE CHEESES. Carolyn Fairbairn started making cheeses at Thornby Moor Dairy in 1979. Her handmade cheeses have since won many awards and are even exported to France.

5. CUMBERLAND MUSTARD. Made by Marilyn Avens and Geoff Cole in Alston, England's highest market town. The mustard is made fromthe finest ingredients including Alston Spring water, cider vinegar, honey, mustard seeds and salt.

6. FARRER'S OF KENDAL. Established as purveyors of fine coffees and teas in 1819.

7. LAKELAND SPECIALITIES. The Hoscamp family have been producing speciality chutneys, jams and preserves in Cumbria for the past 16 years.

8. MORECAMBE BAY POTTED SHRIMPS. Fresh Shrimps carefully potted by Furness Fish and Game Supplier of Ulverston since 1959.

9. PENRITH TOFFEE AND FUDGE. A secret recipe made by Neil Boustead in the kitchen's behind his shop since 1910. As enjoyed by Royalty!

11. ROMNEYS OF KENDAL. Their mint Cake was carried to the summit of Everest by Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tensing:- "We sat on the snow and looked at the country far below us while we nibbled Mint Cake.

12. WOODALLS OF WABERTHWAITE. Colin Woodall is from the eighth generation of Woodall's, the family business set up in 1828 by Hannah Woodall. The same dry-curing recipes and tecniques are still used, and all the pigs come from a closed herd on the family farm.

13. RIBBLESDALE CREAMERY. Chris and Ian hill are the makers of several kinds of Goat milk, Ewes milk, and even Water Buffalo milk cheeses. They also produce a traditional Wensleydale farmhouse cheese at their farm in the high Pennines.

14. WENSLEYDALE CREAMERY. The home of real Wensleydale cheese. "Apple pie without a cheese is like a kiss without a squeeze". Recommended by Wallace and Gromit.
